RIM casting is and ideal way to
get low volume production. There are a huge range
of materials available which have differing characteristics
such as flame ret ardency or high temp etc. Typical
Tool life can be 50 shots and quick de moulding
times giving a cost effective method of producing
large scale models with a quick turnaround.
For the models pictured we have
made SLA masters which have been painted with
a light spark finish. We then place these in silicone
to make the tool which solidifies overnight and
once hard the master can be cut out and saved
for another tool. The cavity which is left can
be cast into giving a copy of the original master.
The parts are trimmed and fitted together ready
for despatch.
Thread inserts can be cast during
the process to allow the plastic to encapsulate
the fully.
